When our two daughters finished their high school studies, my wife and I made them a deal: we would pay for college, but first they each had to run their own business for at least a year. Reversing a six-year downward trend, activity in established small businesses increased last year, according to the 2015 Kauffman Index: Main Street Entrepreneurship, a new report that tracks small business activity and ownership in the United States. Though the number of established small businesses is increasing, the gain remain below pre-recession levels and just above the historical norm. Read more
